Understanding the proper raw feeding approach for different life stages is crucial for your dog's health and development.
Well-mashed raw food is recommended for puppies. Consider adding goat's milk for easy digestion.
Begin introducing raw meaty bones like trachea or poultry necks at this stage.
Monitor weight regularly and adjust portions as needed based on activity level and metabolism.
Begin with a single protein source like chicken. Introduce one protein at a time to monitor for any allergic reactions or digestive issues.
Mix raw food with current diet, gradually increasing the raw portion over 7-10 days until fully transitioned to 100% raw diet.
Once established on raw, introduce varied proteins (beef, lamb, turkey) and organ meats for balanced nutrition.

The calculator provides reliable guidelines based on established raw feeding protocols. However, every dog is unique, so monitor your dog's weight and condition and adjust portions accordingly. The calculator should be used as a starting point.
The generally recommended ratio is 80% muscle meat, 10% bone, 5% liver, and 5% other organs. This mimics what dogs would eat in the wild and provides a balanced nutritional profile. Some dogs may benefit from a small amount (less than 5%) of vegetables and fruits.
Adult dogs typically do well on two meals per day. Puppies require more frequent feeding: 3-4 meals daily for young puppies (under 4 months), gradually reducing to 2-3 meals as they mature. Senior or dogs with specific health conditions may benefit from smaller, more frequent meals.
It's generally recommended to separate raw and kibble feedings by at least 8-12 hours. This is because they digest at different rates, which could potentially cause digestive issues. However, many dogs handle mixed feeding without problems. If transitioning, you can mix them initially but aim to separate or fully transition eventually.
Signs of overfeeding include weight gain, loose stools, or leaving food behind. Signs of underfeeding include hunger behaviors, weight loss, or increased food-seeking behaviors. Regular weight checks and body condition scoring are the best ways to monitor if your feeding amount is appropriate.
